BESALÚ, SO CLOSE TO YOU!

Besalú, a medieval village located at 31 km from Girona, has its origin in the Besalú Castle, already documented in the 10th century. Besalú has one of the most united and best well-kept medieval ensembles in Spain, and therefore it was already declared Historical and Artistic National Ensemble in 1966 because of its great architectural value: besides its famous medieval bridge, you will also be able to visit the Jewish baths, Sant Pere de Besalú and Sant Julià Monastery church, the Cornellà House, Sant Vicent church and the gothic room in the Royal Court Palace.
You are welcome to visit Besalú to discover its history, but you will also be able to enjoy the festivals and fairs of cultural interest that take place in Besalú every year: Besalú Jueva, Fira de forjadors i artistes del ferro, Besalú Medieval, Fira Liberisliber of independent publishing houses and Fira de la ratafia.

In La Garrotxa area you will find the largest volcanic landscapes in Spain, with more than 40 volcanic cones (some of the most well-known being the Croscat volcano and the Santa Margarida Volcano), which form La Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Natural Park, 120 square km large.
The climate, this volcanic orography and the several valleys in La Garrotxa area have favoured several forest areas with oaks, beeches and holm oaks of great value, such as La Fageda d’en Jordà.
From the Fluvià River to the north, in L’Alta Garrotxa area, you will also find an area declared Area of Natural Interest and, to the west, the Collsacabra peak and the Puigsacalm mountain range.
In La Garrotxa area you will be able to enjoy hiking and many other nature-related activities, and you will also be able to taste the volcanic cuisine, with La Garrotxa traditional ingredients and dishes such as the Santa Pau haricot beans.
